Twitter Now Allows its Paid Subscribers to Tweet 10,000 characters

Twitter has announced a new feature that allows its Blue subscribers to tweet up to 10,000 characters messages that will also give them the option of bold and italic formatting.

The recent features allow longer content than the short snippets of text for which Twitter is known for years. Twitter earlier had a limit of 140 characters for years, which doubled in 2017 to 280 characters.

Twitter Blue is Twitter’s subscription product which offers more features than the mere free version, which also includes a blue checkmark. Its cost is $8 per month.

One of Twitter’s official accounts said Thursday, “We’re making improvements to the writing and reading experience on Twitter! Starting today, Twitter now supports Tweets up to 10,000 characters in length, with bold and italic text formatting. Sign up for Twitter Blue to access these new features, and apply to enable subscriptions on your account to earn income directly on Twitter.”

Twitter is also adding monetization options, allowing Twitter users to subscribe to their choicest content creators in exchange for subscriber-only content. The subscriber-only model is the same as offerings from services like Substack.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk said creators will also receive the lion’s share of the subscription income. He tweeted, “You will receive whatever money we receive, so that’s 70% for subscriptions on iOS & Android (they charge 30%) and ~92% on the web (could be better, depending on the payment processor). After the first year, iOS & Android fees drop to 15% and we will add a small amount on top of that, depending on volume. We will also help promote your work. Our goal is to maximize creator prosperity.”

Musk also launched a subscription product for his own Twitter account, charging users $4 per month to have a look at his private subscription-only Tweets.
